Job Requirements

Knowledge of the performance capabilities of the fixed and rotor wing aircraft assigned Knowledge of the aircraft systems and operating procedures of the aircraft assigned Knowledge of aircraft navigational methods and equipment, meteorology, and map reading Knowledge of FAA rules and regulations governing operations of aircraft in congested and control areas Knowledge of mosquito control principles, practices, insecticides, and operations of aircraft equipment used for mosquito larviciding and adulticiding operations Abilities Skills: Ability to perform and train other pilots in all District aircraft for normal flight maneuvers while under VFR or IFR flight rules Ability to safely operate the assigned aircraft at maximum performance levels at low altitudes under adverse conditions Ability to direct and supervise the work of subordinates Ability to be a responsible, professional, and administrative individual Education, Training, Experience: Graduation from high school Possession of Commercial Pilot Certificate ndash; Rotorcraft/Helicopter Certified Flight Instructor ndash; Helicopter 3,000 hours as pilot-in-command and 2,500 hours in turbine flight time with 200 hours as Pilot-in-command with mosquito control or comparable operations Minimum of 200 hours of agricultural spraying or dusting as first pilot Must comply with minimum insurance requirements Licensed in ldquo;Public Health Pest Controlrdquo; with ldquo;State Aerial Applicatorrdquo; from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, or able to obtain such certification within six months Possession of a commercial multi-engine pilot certificate and an FAA Instrument rating Possession of current FAA medical certificate (class II) with no waivers Possession of appropriate FCC Operations Permit Valid Florida Driverrsquo;s License

Job Description

The Chief Pilot supervises flight crew operations of all District aircraft, pilots District aircraft at low altitudes overpopulated and congested areas, maintains flight crews, keeps records, instructs and performs in-flight pilot training and checks, schedules, and assists pilots in flight planning. The Chief Pilot is responsible for the administration of rules and regulations governing the standards of operations of District aircraft; safety, technical, medical, and flight proficiency qualifications for pilots; and ensuring that operations of District aircraft conform with applicable Federal, State, or other rules and/or policies as set forth by the District Board of Commissioners and administered by the Executive Director.
Reporting Responsibilities:
The Chief Pilot reports to the Director of Aerial Operations.
Working Conditions:
The Chief Pilot will be exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, close proximity to moving parts, working in high places, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and or oils, and may be required to wear a respirator and other protective equipment.
Essential Functions (Without Accommodations):

Serve as pilot-in-command or as an instructor and or check pilot during aerial application or test flights.
Coordinates with the Director of Aerial Operations and Director of Aircraft Maintenance and advises personnel and maintains files of FAA Regulations, bulletins, and publications; navigational data; instrument approach procedures and operational handbooks and technical data on aircraft.
Coordinates with the Director of Aerial Operations on test and spray flights.
Coordinates with the Director of Aerial Operations and Director of Aircraft Maintenance and recommends changes to procedures to ensure aircraft readiness.
Responsible for helping with the preparation of all requisitions and the procurement of aircraft parts and components.
Responsible for maintaining an adequate roster of part-time pilots to meet the district needs as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
Maintains weather watch to minimize damage to aircraft by severe weather, and assists in securing and or evacuation of aircraft as warranted by weather conditions.
Ensure compliance with all Federal and State Laws and District policies regarding health and safety.
