Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that it has shipped the initial prototype HTS900 turboshaft engine to Bell Helicopter for design integration into the Model 407X helicopter, meeting their initial delivery commitment.
“This new engine includes a newly designed dual-channel full authority digital engine control (FADEC) that reduces pilot workload and simplifies maintenance procedures,” said Nasos Karras, Vice President for Honeywell’s Helicopter Business. “Honeywell has completed the first and second engine to test for the HTS900 using a production version FADEC that delivered the performance we expected and is an example of Honeywell’s commitment to bring the latest technology and innovation to the helicopter marketplace.
The HTS900 was selected by Bell Helicopter last February to power the Model 407X. More recently, the U.S. Army selected Bell’s model 407 helicopter offering for its Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) featuring the Honeywell HTS900 engine.
“The on-time shipment of this engine successfully completes our initial Bell hardware program deliverable milestone,” said Bob Miller, Honeywell Director of Light Utility/Attack Helicopter Programs. “We look forward to a successful integration by meeting all of our customer commitments.”
The HTS900 produces more than 925 shaft horsepower at takeoff power rating at sea level on a standard day. It incorporates proven T800 compressor technologies and a shrouded compressor disk that provides tighter clearances inside the engine yielding consistent engine performance. The engine is designed for robust performance while delivering low fuel consumption and ease of maintenance.
