How helicopter MROs are rebounding from pandemic slowdowns

Helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul shops are seeing a surge in demand as the industry ramps back up to pre-pandemic levels.

A million or more factors, all interrelated and meshed like braided wire, determine the success of any large helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company.

It’s an industry that demands unflinching performance on tight timelines, sensible planning and canny foresight — all in response to global conditions that turn on a dime.

In the early stages of 2024, as helicopter fleets ramp back up toward pre-pandemic operating levels, MRO providers are increasingly busy. Demand is manageable, but on the rise; and some operations see growth as all but guaranteed.

“Activity has been great,” said David Mast, president and CEO of Precision Aviation Group (PAG). “It’s been fun to see. I don’t know if we’re 100 percent of full recovery, post-Covid, but I think we’re 95 percent of the way there.”
